Overview

Medium voltage switchgear (double busbar) and switchgear interlocking devices

The municipal utilities of Hanover (enercity) provide power, gas, district heating, drinking water and complementary services to more than a half million people.

For the new substation “Wasserturm”, which supplies northern Hanover with power, Sprecher Automation delivered the 12 kV medium voltage switchgear with busbar crossover and busbar earthing as well as SPRECON-E switchgear interlocking for the 110 kV and the 12 kV voltage levels.

Medium voltage switchgear

The installed SPREPOWER MV-M2-DSS is a sectionalised double busbar switchgear with an integrated pressure release duct and busbar earthing at the metal-clad busbar crossover section.

SPREPOWER MV-M2-DSS is type-tested against EN 62271-200 (20 kA/s, 2500 A) and consists of 44 metal-clad compartments. The design of the pressure release duct allows extensions of the switchgear by five bays per suite (customer-specific design for spare feeders).

The 44 compartments are designed as:

  • 3 incoming feeders
  • 29 outgoing feeders
  • 2 measurement bays
  • 2 couplers
  • 1 busbar crossover
  • 1 transformer bay (auxiliaries)
  • 1 AF bay and 1 spare AF bay
  • 2 ready-made spare feeders
  • 2 spare feeders without circuit-breaker

 

Switchgear interlocking

In addition to the switchgear, Sprecher Automation also installed SPRECON-E-C switchgear interlocking devices for the gas-insulated 110 kV switchgear (10 bays) and for the SPREPOWER MV-M2-DSS medium voltage switchgear (44 bays).

The SPRECON-E-C switchgear interlocking devices for the 110 kV switchgear are installed in separated control cubicles. For the medium switchgear, the SPRECON-E-C devices are installed in the low voltage compartments of the cubicles.

Beside switchgear interlocking, the SPRECON-E-C devices also provide local control at both switchgears.

The substation was put into operation in November 2007.
