Telecontrol System for the Gas Pipeline "Südschiene" of EVN

Remote terminal unit for a gas node
Gas pressure regulation station (from high to medium pressure)

With the "Südschiene", EVN (now: Netz Niederösterreich GmbH) realized the largest gas pipeline project throughout their history – a project, that is of great importance to supply security. The new high-pressure pipeline (DN 800, 70 bar) replaces the old line built in the 50's.

The 120 km long gas pipeline (Gänserndorf – Semmering) was finished on schedule in autumn 2011.

The high-pressure pipeline starts from Gänserndorf and leads to the Semmering substation via Velm, Eggendorf and Peisching/Hohe Wand. Then, after crossing the border to Styria, it leads on to Graz operated by Gasnetz Steiermark GmbH.

Sprecher Automation delivered the telecontrol system for the new gas pipeline. SPRECON-E-C remote terminal units are installed at the gas pipeline nodes. Beside their typical control and monitoring tasks of the nodes, the computers also serve for monitoring of the gas pressure regulation stations as well as for remote control and monitoring of slide gate valve stations at the pipelines.

All remote control units are connected to the EVN gas SCADA in Maria Enzersdorf via IEC 60870-5-104.
