Transformer Differential Protection

SPRECON-E-P DQ6

The units convince with a technically mature and commercially optimised modular design. The lightweight, flat, remote control panel is easy to install in doors. A large, fully graphic LCD display offers a clear presentation of the measured values and a high level of comfort during operation and evaluation.

Areas of application

The SPRECON-E-P DQ..6-2 units are multifunctional devices for the protection, control and automation of power systems. They can be used as the main protection of transformers of all important neutral point treatment types in the medium or high voltage level.

In addition to the differential protection function for the phase currents, the SPRECON-E-P DQ..6 units also have characteristic-stabilised earth current differential protection, zero-sequence current filtering, inrush and overexcitation stabilisation and multi-stage overcurrent protection elements separately for all windings. For use with medium-voltage motors, additional thermal mapping and overvoltage and undervoltage protection ensure safe operation.

Close cooperation with control equipment from different manufacturers is made possible by using standardised and proprietary protocols. All necessary important protection and control functions are integrated for a feeder.

Operation

With the help of the remote operating unit, all operating actions required for efficient and safe operation control can be carried out and information displayed, which means that the complete protection setting can be carried out on site even without the SPRECON-E COMM-3 operating programme.

The SPRECON-E control system is parameterised with the SPRECON-E Designer. By means of the drag & drop function, the software module offers the user simple and fast configuration of the control system functions. In addition, the integrated Display Editor is used to create all images for the SPRECON operating unit.

Process and unit information can be displayed in full graphics and colour on a large LC display. In addition, freely parameterisable LEDs are available for signalling. Independent navigation keys enable intuitive user guidance through the various display pages and submenus, guaranteeing easy use of the extensive protection and control technology functions.

The protection devices include all functions that are required and used for transformer differential protection.

In addition to proven protection algorithms, measurement algorithms and protection functions, numerous enhancements have been introduced. Among others these are:

  • Earth current differential protection
  • UMZ/AMZ protection for phase and earth faults, 3-stage separately adjustable for each side
  • Mating system protection
  • Circuit-breaker failure protection, 2-stage per side
  • 4 switchable value sets
  • Higher accuracy
  • High number of stages for both signalling and tripping purposes
  • Extensive test options and commissioning aids
  • Selectable minimum relay holding times for adaptation to external requirements
  • Easily adjustable combinatorial and sequential logic without programming knowledge (virtual binary inputs)
  • Logic operation for application to output relays
  • Circuit breaker control as an option

The large display area of the control unit offers user-friendly setting options similar to the SPRECON-E COMM-3 operating programme.

The SPRECON-E-P DQ..6-2 series consists of combined protection and control devices which ensure the protection of electrical equipment and at the same time take over the control and monitoring tasks in electrical power systems. The main protection function is differential protection for transformers.

The multifunctional units fulfil all secondary technical tasks and are characterised by a consistent separation of the protection and control technology part:

  • Separate data models
  • Separate control and protection firmware
  • Separate control and protection system parameterisation
  • Separate passwords
  • No protection test of the feeder and interruption in the primary circuit necessary when updating the control system parameters and control system firmware

Configuration

All functions can be configured individually. By dividing them into protection configuration and control system parameterisation, different requirements of all users are met in the best possible way. The protection-specific functions can be configured or deactivated individually depending on the application. Functions that are not required are hidden and functionally not activated. This enables simple and clear configuration of the unit.

In the control technology, the focus is on the concept of a database-supported type orientation according to the same field types. This significantly simplifies and facilitates the project planning of extensive systems.
