Sprecher Automation provides products and solutions for power supply and process automation. We secure critical infrastructures and optimise complex energy and industry processes.
Our customers are local as well as international power utilities, industries, transportation companies, municipal utilities and public institutions. We serve them ourselves via our locations or via selected and certified local contractual system partners.
Quality, availability and security – those are not only our customers's requirements, but also goals we are striving for. Due to that, for example, the hard- and software development are located in Austria and Germany. We produce exclusively in Austria – starting with the production of single elements, to system checks and practical inhouse testing.

The roots of Sprecher Automation date back to the year 1900. Then, for the first time, the name “Sprecher” was introduced to the industrial world by “Sprecher & Schuh”, a factory for electric devices. Today’s Sprecher Automation was formed in 2002 through a management buy-out of the former ALSTOM Austria AG, the successor of Sprecher & Schuh.
- 1900 Aarau, Switzerland: Karl Sprecher founded "Sprecher & Schuh, Fabrik elektrischer Apparate"
- 1912 Linz, Austria: On the site of today's headquarters, the first foreign subsidiary has been founded. Until the 1980ies, the company was very succesful with energy systems and automation solutions.
- 1986 Take-over of the energy sector through the French owner. The following years are characterised by different company names: Sprecher Energie, GEC Alsthom, ALSTOM.
- 2001 In Paris, the decision was made to close the location Linz. This would have meant that 160 employees would have lost their jobs. Today's CEO Erwin Raffeiner and some of his management colleagues took the brave step and took over the location.
- 2002 The Sprecher Automation GmbH emerged from the former structure through a management buy-out.
Since then, many new subsidiaries has been founded. The order intake exceeded the 100 million mark in the 2020/2021 financial year and, with around 650 employees, Sprecher Automation now employs four times as many people as in the founding year 2002.
