Overcurrent Protection for Railway Applications
SPRECON-E-P RS6
The modular SPRECON-E-P RS..6 railway overcurrent protection devices are used in railway systems and grids as main or backup protection for switching and catenary systems. The implemented protection functions enable the selective protection of single- or double-sided fed catenary feeders. In addition, the devices can be used as system protection for railway switchgear or as backup protection for railway lines or transformers.
Areas of Application
Thanks to the extensive additional functions, the devices are particularly qualified for the following areas of application with different grid frequencies (16.7 Hz, 25 Hz, 50 Hz):
- AC catenary systems in single or two-wire applications
- Switchgear for catenary feeders
- Railway transformers or lines
- Connection of auxiliary consumers to the railway grid
Operation & Parameter Setting
The detached control panel enables efficient and safe operation. You can use it to carry out the necessary operating actions as well as the complete protection setting on site.
The SPRECON-E control system is configured with the SPRECON-E Designer. Using the drag & drop function, you can configure the control system functions quickly and easily. The integrated Display Editor creates all images for the SPRECON control panel in parallel. This displays process and device information in full graphics and colour on a large LC display. In addition, freely configurable LEDs are available for signalling.
With the autonomous navigation keys, you can move intuitively through the various display pages and submenus and use the extensive protection and control technology functions.
The multifunctional SPRECON-E-P RS..6-2 overcurrent protection devices have a modular design and are equipped with standardised hardware modules. The implemented protection functions enable selective main or backup protection of single- or autotransformer catenary feeders. It can also be used as system protection for railway switchgear or as backup protection for railway lines or transformers. In addition to protection and measured value recording, you can also control circuit breakers with the devices.
Protection Packages
You can optionally include additional protection functions as extension packages to the standard basic range of functions. The system protection functions available in some protection packages are implemented as independent protection functions in the firmware.
- Package 1: Non-directional railway overcurrent protection
- Package 2: Directional railway overcurrent protection
- Package 3: Package 2 + Synchro-Check
In addition, SPRECON-E-P RS..6-2 devices can perform further tasks such as voltage, frequency and power direction protection.
Separated Protection & Control Technology
The SPRECON-E-P RS..6-2 multifunctional devices ensure the protection of electrical equipment and can simultaneously take over control and monitoring tasks in railway power systems. The devices fulfil all secondary tasks and are characterised by a consistent separation of the protection and control technology parts:
- Separated data models
- Separated control and protection firmware
- Separated control and protection configuration
- Separated passwords
- No testing of protection function at feeder nor primary circuit disconnection required on updating control parameters or firmware
By dividing them into protection configuration and control technology parameterisation, the devices meet the different requirements in the best possible way and can be used in any switchgear panel, taking into account user-specific requirements.
Configuration
You can activate or deactivate all functions individually depending on the application. You simply hide functions that are not required. The configuration of the device thus remains simple and clear. In the control technology, the focus is on the concept of a database-supported type orientation according to the same bay types. This significantly simplifies and facilitates the project planning of extensive systems.
